COLLEGE AND OSSINGTON
by Scott McIntyre

Woman. Flowers in hand. Standing on the side of the street. Heat waves flowing up like snowflakes fall down. Sees a Man. Across the street. Flowers on her dress. He’s in shirtsleeves. Sandals. No flowers. Summer sun baking the concrete deep beige. Eyes lock. Gaze returned. Checks her watch. A streetcar rumbles between them. Blurred red. Stripes. A car stops and smiling he gets in. For both of them, the whole encounter feels similar to, but not exactly the same as, being trapped inside a haiku.
